Planning begins on the Union River Dike Project

The Theler Wetlands Trail on the dike along the Union River provides beautiful views of the estuary, river, and the wildlife within. The project to reestablish a connection to former estuary habitat blocked by a dike along the Union River is in the planning stages.  The goal of the project is to remove sections of the dike, replace them with pile supported walkways, and keep the Theler Wetlands Trail system intact.  The project will restore estuarine habitat, and benefit salmon and many other wetland organisms.  The first planning meeting was held on July 1, 2010.  Click here to read the July 1st Meeting Minutes.  Click here to reach the Habitat page to learn more about upcoming habitat projects.
